Tortilla Chips with Spicy Sauce!

An easy snack for a night in with friends – ideal to accompany a movie night or a football match. Not too fatty (just 95 calories), and with preparation time that doesn’t exceed 45 minutes, this recipe is a must know.


For the sauce:

  • 1 can of chili peppers in red sauce
  • 1 bunch of fresh coriander, finely chopped
  • 4 medium size tomatoes cut in squares
  • 1 medium size onion, finely chopped
  • Juice from ½ lime

For the tortilla chips:

  • Juice from 2 ½ limes
  • 1 tablespoon seed oil
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon powdered cumin
  • 8 medium size corn tortillas

For the cheese:

  • ½ cup soft cream cheese
  • ¼ cup goat cheese (such as brie)

How to make it:

  1. Take two chili peppers out of the can and chop in small pieces. Keep 1 teaspoon of the spicy sauce from the can.
  2. Mix all other ingredients in a bowl and the canned chili peppers in a separate bowl. Cover and put in the refrigerator for an hour.
  3. Pre heat the oven to 350F (180 οC)
  4. For the chips, mix the lime juice, the Tabasco sauce and the seed oil in a bowl. Add the cumin and the paprika and stir.
  5. Spread about ¼ teaspoon of the mix on one tortilla and cover with another tortilla. Spread the mix on the top of the tortilla and continue stacking one tortilla on top of another.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut all tortillas together in 6 triangles. Spread the chips on parchment paper (one layer only) and bake for 15 minutes.
  7. Turn to the other side and bake for another 10 minutes. Take out of the oven.
  8. Turn the temperature down to 325F (160 οC).
  9. Prepare the cheese by mixing the two kinds of cheese in a shallow baking bowl. Cover with aluminum foil and warm up in the baking bowl for about 10 minutes.
  10. Serve the crunchy chips with the spicy sauce and the cheese sauce.
